Doug is Principal of Claremont College, an Anglican co-educational primary school in Randwick, Sydney where he has been the Principal for 9 years. Doug’s passions are many. His school is an Australian leader in environmental education and is one of a small number of schools that have significantly reduced its carbon footprint, particularly in energy consumption. Claremont College is recognised as a leader in innovation and design. Claremont’s classroom design and refurbishment projects have won a number of architecture awards. Doug’s interests include; creating schools and inclusive, flexible classrooms that maximise teaching and learning, supporting and promoting teacher professional learning and feedback, visible learning, technology, global connections, student resilience, and developing parent programs. Additionally, Claremont College is receiving world-wide attention for the implementation of an innovative co-teaching model which is linked to a school-based research project. At least once a year, Doug travels to Vision Rescue in Mumbai and also to North India (www.kotdwarahelp.org) where he trains teachers in slum schools, assisting them with their teaching and developing various school programs and community projects.
