Have you ever wondered what is the most acceptable form of worship?
Christianity has a broad array of worship styles. Some use hymns, others contemporary songs. Some use organs where others choose live bands with different instruments. Romans highlights 2 key phrases around the way to worship God and the way that He will find acceptable.
Romans 12:1 NLT
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
We often worship God the way we want but every human person must learn to ask the most important question, what does God want? Relationship with God should not be too difficult to work out, He has given us people to practice with. When we worship God we take on His nature and characteristics and people all around us will benefit from that. Psalms says this;
Psalms 24:3-4 NIV
“Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.”
1. Clean Hands.
So, is it hands up or hands down when you worship God?
There are so many different worship styles in so many different churches. Which style is most acceptable? And who decides? If worship is to God and for God (not us) then it is only God who can decide if our worship is acceptable! James says our belief in God must have resulting activity or we forget what manner of person we are! (James 1:22-27.) Your identity is revealed in your activity!
2. Pure Heart.
How’s your cholesterol?
High cholesterol is a buildup of lipoprotein resulting mostly from poor diet and exercise. Generally speaking, it’s the things outside our life that affect the inside of our life. (Eg, stress, diet, tiredness, change, failure & betrayal).These external circumstances also have a major influence on our internal soul and spirit. They mostly reveal the intentions of our heart. When I speak harshly to other people it is merely the reflection of my own inner defeat!
Acceptable Worship is all about clean hands and a pure heart. When we worship God, He influences our heart to live life appropriately. We cannot hang out with God and stay the same. Eventually, God’s nature will rub off on us and we will be better for it – and so will the people who interact with us. God has clear intentions to be merciful and kind to people. God loves people. God did not send His Son into this world to judge them but to save them. (John 3:17)
Acceptable worship is when God’s intentions are clearly seen in my activity!
